RED Control Pro App - Solid, reliable and easy to use!
In the second instalment of our new series, we will be taking a look at the RED Control Pro App and explaining why we find ourselves using this App constantly on shoots here at The Picture House.
Hi, my name's James from The Picture House, and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Red Control Pro app and some of the features we find most useful.
Firstly, unlike some other systems, it just works, and it's super slick. Just connect this to your Wi-Fi. This is already on Wi-Fi. Launch the app, select the camera and you're in straight away.
It gives you a live view with next to zero latency. So you can use it as a client monitor or a talent monitor or if the camera is rigged in an awkward position like in an overhead for example. All of your frequent controls are here on the dashboard.
Things like iris, shutter speed, format, frame rate, all of these controls are right here. And it's really easily customizable. You can toggle guides really easily. For example, we've set ours to 9.16, which we find ourselves using a lot.
Playback controls are fully featured. So you can hit playback, you've got a thumbnail of all of your recent clips. You can scrub through super easy. So previewing your previous shot takes seconds.
Also very quickly you can grab screenshots which are saved to your device, which you can then send via WhatsApp or email to your clients if they can't be here in the studio, which you can then get feedback on super quick, make changes if you need to or even use them as a reference for later on.
You can type in slate information such as shot ID or production information, which all comes up as metadata in your editing software.
But fundamentally for us, it just works and it works really well.
